Tom Kowalski is reporting that the Lions have signed former Bengals running back Rudi Johnson to a one-year deal. Johnson was released by the Bengals last week, and apparently impressed Rod Marinelli enough in workouts to merit a deal:
"I just had a chance to watch him in some drills (during a workout) and he's impressive. He's a big, thick guy who has great feet. I played against him over the years so I know he's a very physical back. He's a guy with a lot of talent and a lot of experience.''Johnson had three straight 1000-yard rushing seasons from 2004-2006, but struggled with injuries last season and during training camp this year. He will likely begin the season as Detroit's number two back, behind rookie Kevin Smith.
