And Thus the Josh Smith Pipe Dream Endeth

Photobucket

So much for a potential Pistons sign-and-trade for Josh Smith (which was mostly a fantasy of Detroit fans like myself, and not any substantiated rumor). Smith just signed a $58 million offer sheet with the Memphis Grizzlies, which the Atlanta Hawks now have a week to match. Regardless of which team Smith ends up on (smart money would be on the Hawks), he will now certainly not be a Detroit Piston next season. Damn.

Despite all of Joe Dumars' talk of making a big move this offseason, and the myraid trade talks surrounding Detroit this summer, nothing major has happened yet. Personally, I am doing my best to trust Dumars to do the right thing, and stay patient while he waits for the right offer to pounce on. At this point, however, it looks more and more like Detroit will be going into next season with essentially the same team. Make your own judgments as to whether or not that is a good thing.
